Glen Burnie Teen Named 'Youth of the Year'

Glen Burnie High School sophomore Desmond Beggerly was named 2013 Youth of the Year as six high school students around Anne Arundel County were recognized in the annual award ceremony Thursday.

Each branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs in Annapolis and Anne Arundel County sent a nominee. Beggerly will go on to the state award ceremony, with a chance to win a scholarship and advance to a regional ceremony, reports The Maryland Gazette.

Here is a list of the six nominees:

• Janel Adkins, Meade High School
• Alana Anthony, South River High School
• Desmond Beggerly, Glen Burnie High School
• Jakwaun Caldwell, Annapolis High School
• Trevon Calhoun, Annapolis High School
• Kiersten Hough, Annapolis High School
