Anne Arundel County and the City of Annapolis recently awarded Glen Burnie resident Beth Behegan for her volunteer work with the Citizens Corps.
Behegan was one of three county residents who received the honor of about 100 volunteers, said Mark Chang, community liaison for County Executive John R. Leopold.
The mission of the Citizen Corps is to ensure that citizens of Anne Arundel County and Annapolis receive the knowledge and tools to be self-sufficient for themselves, their families and their community during an emergency and/or disaster situation, according to the website.

โI wanted to get information on emergency preparedness for the GBIA and for the [Glen Burnie] Carnival,โ she said. โI want to be prepared in case an emergency happens.โ
Behegan said one of the things she learned that stuck with her when faced with an emergency is to stop, think, look and listen before jumping into the situation.
โFortunately I havenโt had to use my training yet,โ she said.
