Liquor Store Killing Prompts Guilty Plea In Anne Arundel County: Prosecutor
After a fatal liquor store shooting in Anne Arundel County, prosecutors said the suspect pleaded guilty to murder.

GLEN BURNIE, MD — A man pleaded guilty to murder after a fatal shooting outside a Glen Burnie liquor store, prosecutors announced Friday.
A press release said 70-year-old Gregory Lydell Siscoe of Brooklyn Park pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and the use of a handgun in a crime of violence. The state is seeking a 30-year prison term at the Sept. 6 sentencing.
Siscoe is accused of killing 29-year-old Darius Davon Matthews of Glen Burnie outside Clauss Liquors last year.

“The defendant had been ordered by an Anne Arundel County judge to stay away from Clauss Liquors,” Anne Arundel County State's Attorney Anne Colt Leitess said in the release. “Not only did he ignore that order, he went there with guns to defend his turf. Despite many chances to walk away from a verbal argument with the victim, he engaged in a continued confrontation with Mr. Mathews and then while standing at a safe distance himself, fired a fatal shot at Mr. Matthews.”
Prosecutors said the Anne Arundel County Police Department was called to the back parking lot of Clauss Liquors, located at 604 Crain Highway, around 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 26, 2022.

Officers found Siscoe holding a 12-gauge Winchester rifle and took him into custody, the state's attorney said.
Police also found Matthews nearby on the pavement next to his red sedan with a single gunshot to his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the release said.
Surveillance video showed that the victim and the suspect got into an argument at Clauss Liquors hours earlier, the state's attorney said.
Leitess said the victim and the suspect then returned to the parking lot just after 4 p.m., where they started arguing again.
The video showed Siscoe walk to his parked vehicle nearby to get the shotgun and fire a single shot at Matthews from across the parking lot, prosecutors said.
Assistant State’s Attorney Brian Pritchard prosecuted the case. Judge Michael E. Malone presided over it.
“This is yet another situation where gun violence was used to resolve a petty dispute and the result is another young life taken,” Leitess said.
Siscoe is still being held without bond, the release said.
