Local Man Wins Scholarship for Bay Cleanup Plan
A Glen Burnie man earned a scholarship to further his education in environmental science.
A Glen Burnie man won the $5,000 CanU scholarship from Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company and Anne Arundel Community College Foundation for his plan to reduce the environmental impact of stormwater runoff that flows into the Chesapeake Bay.
Robert Prettyman, 51, of Glen Burnie, will be able to put the money toward furthering his studies of ecosystem restoration and environmental monitoring at Anne Arundel Community College. Prettyman completed his undergraduate education at Virginia Tech in 1984 and spent decades in the workforce before returning to school.
The CanU scholarship is part of the Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company's dedication of 2 percent of its sales toward protecting the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The company's coffee can be found in more than 120 stores around Maryland.
Representatives from the company, school and local environmental groups will be on hand for the scholarship presentation on Jan. 25 at 11:30 a.m. at the AACC campus in Arnold.
