MVA Unveils Giant Dummy to Promote Seat Belt Usage

There's a news face in Glen Burnie, and the Motor Vehicle Administration hopes it's big enough to save lives.

MVA officials unveiled a 34-foot crash test dummy in front of the building on Ritchie Highway to promote seat belt usage.

Lack of seat belt usage played a factor in 38 percent of motor vehicle deaths in Maryland over the past five years, according to MVA statistics. This percentage is greater than the percentage of deaths caused by impairment or speed in the same time period.

The fiberglass sculpture cost $63,000 and was paid for with grants from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
