New Year's Crash in Glen Burnie Sends Man to Shock Trauma

One driver is in critical but stable condition after the collision early Tuesday.

A single vehicle crash only minutes into the new year sent a man to Shock Trauma, according to Anne Arundel County police.

Shortly after 12 a.m. on Jan. 1, police responded to a crash in Glen Burnie and found a vehicle that left the roadway on Route 10 and struck the bridge supports for the I-695 overpass.

Medical crews removed the driver of the vehicle, who was partially ejected and sustained life-threatening injuries. Crews transported him to the Shock Trauma center in Baltimore. The driver, Daniel Alan Leitner, 24, of Baltimore, remains in critical but stable condition at Shock Trauma, according to police.

Police said an initial investigation shows Leitner was traveling northbound on Route 10 and failed to negotiate a curve in the road, which led his vehicle to leave the roadway, striking a light pole and a bridge support on the beltway overpass.

Speed and impairment may have been contributing factors to the crash, according to police.
