Patch Whiz Kid of the Week: Adriana Scott
This 5-year-old is doing her part to help the children who were victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
- Whiz Kidโs Name, Age: Adriana Scott, 5
- Whiz Kidโs Accomplishment: Adriana will host the Cupcake Rescue for the Children of Japan bake sale Saturday. All of the proceeds will go to Save the Children.
- Whiz Kidโs Key to Awesomeness: After learning about the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Adriana found out about opportunities to help on Nick.com. She said she saw the devastation and hardships that Japanese children were enduring and wanted to help. After looking over suggestions on the Nickelodeon site, the settled on a cupcake sale.
"At first she wanted to do 100 cupcakes and charge $2," said Adriana's mother Laura. "We created a Facebook page and sent it to a couple of our friends ... [After a day] we had like 50 likes."
At that point Laura Scott said the plan was to hold the bake sale on the corner outside her home on Hollybrook Road. But that was before Ravens linebacker Ray Rice endorsed the cupcake sale on his Facebook page.
"Within an hour we had 250 likes," Laura Scott said.
Adriana and her family will be at the Violetville Volunteer Fire Department, 4000 Benson Ave., in Baltimore Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. About 300 cupcakes have been pre-ordered that will be ready for pickup Saturday, Laura Scott said, and there will be 1,000 more available for sale on a first-come-first serve basis.
"Now all Adriana's interested in is how many Facebook fans we have, if she'll get to sell the cupcakes herself and how much money we'll give Save the Children."
