Photos: Sinkhole Closes Route 100 On-Ramp in Glen Burnie
The pavement collapsed sometime Thursday afternoon, according to the State Highway Administration.
The on-ramp to Route 100 west from southbound Ritchie Highway will be closed for "some time" after the road collapsed Thursday afternoon, according to State Highway Administration (SHA) officials.
Bruce Perry, resident maintenance engineer with SHA, said he was contacted by police Thursday afternoon and informed that the road on the Route 100 on-ramp looked unsafe.
Perry said when he went to inspect the road, police had shut the ramp down and were diverting traffic.

"They put flares out and we were watching it steadily drop. We shut down the road just in time," he said.
Perry said he had no timetable for when the sinkhole would be repaired, but utility officials needed to inspect the hole first.

"We can't do any excavating until that's clear. We've got to be safe," he said. "Then we can start to rebuild."
Perry said the sinkhole was caused by massive amounts of water.
