Police Treating Brooklyn Park Death as a Homicide

Officers found Nick Gilbert Gartelman, 50, in "medical distress" at the 6000 block of Ritchie Highway in Brooklyn Park on Friday.

Detectives are investigating the death of a 50-year-old man in Brooklyn Park on Friday that they believe to be a potential homicide, according to Anne Arundel County police.

At about 9:02 p.m. on Friday, officers responded to the 6000 block of Ritchie Highway in Brooklyn Park for a reported assault, according to a police press release. Upon arrival, they found Nick Gilbert Gartelman, 50, who was in “medical distress,” police said.

Although police have not determined the cause of death, the Homicide Unit has taken over the case and its investigation.

Initial investigations led police to believe Gartelman was involved in a physical altercation with another man prior to officers arriving at the scene. Detectives do not believe this incident to be a random act, according to the release.
