Two women were named employee of the month and volunteer of the month for their involvement in their schools.

The Anne Arundel County Board of Education honored two women for their work with public schools in Glen Burnie.

A committee of retired Anne Arundel County school personnel selected Cindy Wengert, the data processing and attendance secretary at Marley Middle School, as employee of the month.

Another committee of parents and volunteers selected Allison Pickard, PTA president at Oakwood Elementary School, as the volunteer of the month.

In addition to her attendance duties, Wengert also processes interim reports and report cards, as well as all of the grade corrections, according to the AACPS website.

Pickard, after starting as PTA secretary a little over a year at Oakwood Elementary, has taken the lead on several projects for the PTA and encouraged involvement of other volunteers.

"I can think of no volunteer in my many years as an educator who is more deserving of this award," said Oakwood Principal Donna Usewick. "Quite simply, Allison has breathed new life into this school community."
