Schools Recognized by Maryland Food Bank

Students from throughout Maryland who participated in the Kids Helping Kids program were honored on May 30 at the Halethorpe-based nonprofit group.

Now in is 22nd year, Kids Helping Kids is a partnership between the Maryland Food Bank, the Maryland State Department of Education, Harvest for the Hungry, as well as local soup kitchens, pantries and shelters, according to the organization.

This year, 515 schools participated in the campaign. Students collected 462,497 pounds of food and raised $120,814 in donations, food bank officials said.

hosted a weeklong when staff and faculty camped out on school grounds in an effort to collect food donations to give to the Anne Arundel County Food and Resource Bank.

Their efforts helped the school collect and donate 6,677 pounds of food—the fourth highest in the state. donated the most food, with 13,719 pounds.
