Spring Sports: State Playoff Brackets Revealed

MPSSAA finalizes state tournaments for boys' and girls' lacrosse, baseball and softball.

Beginning with lacrosse this Monday, the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) unveiled its playoff brackets for the 2011 season. Complete brackets can be viewed at MPSSAA.org.

Also, note that in all sports, seeds one through four were awarded based on win-loss record, while the five through 12 seeds are slotted at random.

Baseball

  • Slated as the No. 12 seed, will travel to fifth-seeded Friday in the 4A East opening round. With a win, the Gophers would advance to play the winner of the game between North County and Severna Park.
  • , a No. 13 seed, will face off against Severna Park Friday. The winner of this game will play against either Glen Burnie or Old Mill.

Softball

  • Earning the No. 3 seed in the 4A East region, North County will have a first-round bye and begin tournament play Monday when they host the winner of Thursday's game between Glen Burnie and South River.
  • Slated as the No. 11 seed in the 4A East region, Glen Burnie travels to South River, Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. The winner travels to take on North County on Monday. ย 

Boys' Lacrosse

  • Glen Burnie, a No. 9 seed in the 4A-3A South region, will travel to Baltimore to take on Patterson Thursday. If they advance, the Gophers will travel to Timonium to take on top-seeded Dulaney on Saturday in the region quarterfinals.
  • Slated as the No. 5 seed in the 4A-3A South region, North County will take on 12th-seeded Perry Hall Thursday at home. The Knights would take on fourth-seeded C. Milton Wright, who has a first-round bye (a 4-5 matchup) in the region semis with a win.

Girls' Lacrosse

  • No. 6 seeded North County will host 11th-seeded Patterson Thursday. With a win, the Knights would play the No. 3 seed Catonsville Saturday.
  • Glen Burnie, who earned a No. 7 seed, will host 10th-seeded Kenwood Thursday. The Gophers would travel to second-seeded C. Milton Wright, who has a first-round bye, with a win.
