Former Greenbelter, Richard Hause, Dies at 80

A former county police officer with roots in Greenbelt dies at age 80.

Richard Lawton Hause, a 1948 graduate of Greenbelt High School and veteran of the Korean War, died Wednesday. He was 80.

Born in Hopewell, Va., Mr. Hause went on to serve as a police officer in Prince George's County. He also served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps, earning the National Defense Service Medal for his efforts in the Korean War.

Following a successful career with Continental Cablevision (now Media One), Mr. Hause retired in Coral Springs, Fla., where his passion was raising and showing old English sheepdogs.

Mr. Hause is survived by his love, Lucy Pearce; several children, including Gary Spencer Hause and Stacia Anne Harper (Randy) of Green Cove Springs, Fla., Steven Craig Snare and Melanie Katherine Hause of Richmond, Va., Michael Trent Snare (Lisa) of Mason Neck, Va., Leslie Jo Snare of Roanoke, Va., and David Lawton Hause (Melinda) of Palm Coast, Fla. Other survivors include 19 grandchildren, two great-grand children and a beloved champion old English sheepdog named Harry.

Mr. Hause's burial will take place in Hopewell.
