Gambrill Fatal Crash: Settlement Reached on Court Costs

Elizabeth Haley Meyers was charged with negligent manslaughter after the fatal car crash March 10, 2013, AACOPD reports.

A settlement has been reached from a crash that killed one motorcyclist by a Bowie driver who was texting and driving, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

Elizabeth Meyers, 21, then 19, was charged with negligent manslaughter for the fatal crash on March 10, 2013. Police say that there was conflicting evidence in the suspicion that Meyers was texting at the time of the crash. In May 2014 she pleaded guilty to negligent driving and was charged $500 in the case.

According to court documents, Meyers and her mother, Margaret Meyers, will pay all outstanding court costs involving victim’s death. The Halperin Law Center representing Roberts had originally asked for $5 million.

During the crash almost two years ago, Meyers was trying to cross Route 3 northbound in Gambrills. As she was changing lanes in the 2008 Chevy Cobalt to get into the Royal Farm parking lot, she moved into the path of Jonathan Roberts, 30, traveling on a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle, AACOPD reports. The crash occurred and Roberts was pronounced dead at the Baltimore Washington Medical Center. Meyers sustained minor injuries.

Witnesses reported that they saw Meyers texting on a cell phone as she was pulling into the parking lot. Prosecutors says the mobile records confirm that she had been exchanging texts leading up to the crash.
