Greenbelt House Party Takes on Citizens United
Attendees will discuss how to overturn the Supreme Court ruling that declared corporations as people.

Lore Rosenthal is hosting a Greenbelt house party on Thursday at 7 p.m. to support the movement for a constitutional amendment to reverse the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, which declared that corporations are people.
Public Citizen is teaming up with Common Cause, Free Speech for People, Move to Amend and People For the American Way to host house parties all over the country. Rosenthal’s Greenbelt party is in support of these organizations’ attempts to reduce corporate influence over democracy — and is also in partnership with Prince George's County Peace & Justice Coalition and Greenbelt Climate Action Network.
On Wednesday, Rosenthal said the party was almost full, but she received such a large response of people interested in the issue that she may hold a second house party next week, with the exact date to be determined, but possibly on Dec. 22.
People interested in participating can contact Rosenthal at lore@simplicity-matters.org, 301-345-2234. At that time Rosenthal will provide the location of the party for those invited. But she does not wish to publicly announce it.

Rosenthal stated that attendees will discuss goals and actions on a city, state, and national level. They will also strategize how to re-introduce a proposed resolution to the Greenbelt City Council. In addition they will learn about Jamie Raskin's efforts to introduce a resolution in the Annapolis legislature and will hear about several congressional and senatorial attempts to introduce a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United.
The party gives people the chance to help plan for public events around January 21, 2012 — the two-year anniversary of the Citizens United ruling, Rosenthal stated.
