Greenbelt Set to Kick Off its 75th Anniversary
On Sunday the year long celebration begins.

Sunday is the grand kickoff for Greenbelt’s 75th Anniversary year, which will be the beginning of a year long celebration with movies, dances, art exhibits, festivals and more.
Artful Afternoon will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the , and it’s free. Here’s what you have to look forward to:
Hands-on Craft
1 p.m. – 3 p.m. (Greenbelt Community Center Room 113)
Make a wrist cuff with artist in residence Celestine Ranney-Howes. There are sizes and styles for boys, girls, women and men. No experience is needed.
Studio Open House and Sale with Center’s Artists in Residence
1 p.m. – 4 p.m. (Greenbelt Community Center artists studios in rooms 301, 302 and 303)
“Faces of Greenbelt” Art Dedication
2:45 p.m. (Greenbelt Community Center, 2nd Floor)
A new piece of art, created by the public for the public, will be dedicated. “Faces of Greenbelt” is ceramic tile panel created through intergenerational workshops facilitated by Mary Gawlik, artist in residence and tile making instructor at the Greenbelt Community Center.

Bel Cantanti Opera
Following the Mayor’s remarks, around 3:10 p.m. (Greenbelt Community Center Gym)
Bel Cantanti Opera offers a sneak premiere performance of their new show The Impresario (Der Schauspieldirektor). Mozart’s one-act farce about operatic auditions transports you to New York of 1940s, where two prima donnas fight for the attention of an agent, who is desperately trying to get rid of them both.
You can also enter the drawing for two tickets to the performance of your choice at the or for a gift certificate for pottery by artist in residence and pottery instructor . Enter the drawing for free at the Greenbelt Community Center Art Gallery, or through the City of Greenbelt’s online entry form, up until 2:30pm on Sunday.
The winners will be announced at 3 p.m., prior to the opera performance.
