MISHKAN TORAH TO PRESENT ENVIRONMENTAL FILM "SWITCH" ON NOVEMBER 16

The documentary "Switch" will be show at Mishkan Torah on Nov. 16 at 10:30 am.

On Sunday, November 16th, the Adult Education Committee of Mishkan Torah Synagogue will be showing the 2013 documentary “Switch: Discover the Future of Energy”. The film will be shown at 10:30 am. In the film, Dr. Scott Tinker, a Geology Professor at the University of Texas, embarks on a spectacular global adventure, exploring the world’s leading sites for all energy types, from coal to solar, and from oil to biofuel, Some of them are highly restricted and never before seen on film. His journey also includes natural gas, nuclear, geothermal, hydroelectric, and wind power. Dr. Tinker delves into current and future worldwide energy use for transportation, electricity, heating, and cooling. He gets straight answers from the political, industry and academic leaders driving energy today. In the end, he discovers a path to our future as surprising as it is practical. To date, this film has been shown at 18 environmental film festivals, including the Colorado Environmental Film Festival where it won “Best of Fest”. Over 3 million viewers have seen it worldwide. The film has received rave reviews including the following;

Washington Post - “Switch is refreshingly free of hot air. It’s almost shocking in the way it sidesteps the kind of issue advocacy made commonplace by filmmakers Michael Moore, Davis Guggenheim and the like. Lynch’s [director] film tries (and largely succeeds) in taking a scrupulously neutral tack between extremes.”

DC Film Review - “Every now and then a film comes to my attention that literally demands to be shared with as many people as possible. Switch is one such entity. It’s must-see entertainment for every person in America and perhaps the world.”

Erin Geoffroy, Environmental Defense Fund - “Switch really puts all the pieces together, and makes me optimistic for the future. I think it should be seen by everyone…”

The event is free and open to the general community. The film has a running time of 98 minutes. After the film, there will be an open discussion. The doors open at 10:00 am where light refreshments will be available for purchase. Mishkan Torah is located at 10 Ridge Road in Greenbelt.
