• Betelgeuse has a hidden companion and Hubble just caught its wake (sciencedaily.com) — Greenbelt gets a brief spotlight as NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, based here, oversees operations for the Hubble Space Telescope that enabled a major new discovery about the star Betelgeuse and its hidden companion. Astronomers used Hubble and ground-based observatories to confirm a companion star carving a dense gas wake, helping explain Betelgeuse’s strange dimming and long-term brightness cycles.
