MARYLAND — The largest project in BWI's history was unveiled recently, which includes many amenities such as upgraded restrooms, new seating with integrated charging ports in gate areas and an open market space with food and retail concessions.
Several communities are participating in winter restaurant weeks this month, including Silver Spring, Bethesda and College Park. These events highlight the talent of local chefs and offer discounts and special deals to patrons.
While coffee lovers are mourning the closure of Compass Coffee in College Park, golf aficionados are celebrating the opening of indoor golf simulator company Back Nine, which will opening in Crofton.

Baltimore-Washington International Airport Improvements Complete
A $520 million improvement project at Baltimore-Washington International Airport officially opened to passengers and airlines Jan. 8. The project is the largest in the airport's history and includes such components as 14,000 square feet of open market space for new food and retail concessions, with an additional 28,000 square feet of shell flex space for future concessions.
These Silver Spring-Area Eateries Part Of DC's Winter Restaurant Week
The 2026 Winter Restaurant Week presented by the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington includes Silver Spring and Bethesda area restaurants. The event runs from Monday, Jan. 19, to Sunday, Jan. 25. Restaurant Week offers diners a chance to try multi-course, specially priced menus at some of the area’s most renowned restaurants
Back Nine Coming Soon To Crofton
The indoor golf simulator company Back Nine is coming soon to Crofton with a new location planned for Gambrills. The space spans about 3,866 square feet within a retail center at 1166 Maryland Route 3, No. 20, to serve the Crofton and Gambrills communities.
Coffee Shop Closing As DMV Chain Files For Bankruptcy
Compass Coffee in College Park will be closing its doors after the coffee shop chain filed a Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition Tuesday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court. Compass Coffee operates 25 coffee shops across the DMV and plans to close 10 of them.
Taste Of College Park Offers Chef-Inspired Cuisine, Menu Specials
Starting Jan. 16, residents can sample the best College Park's eateries have to offer during Taste of College Park. The event will run this year from Jan. 16-25. More than 20 local restaurants are participating in Taste of College Park.
Columbia’s Phoenix Theatres Shows Final Flick
The Phoenix Theatres announced on its website that the Columbia Snowden 14 + ScreenX movie theater closed for good Jan. 5, only eight months after reopening.
