Hospitalized victim found after bullets fly on Springhill Drive (shorenewsnetwork.com) — Police are investigating a midday shooting on Springhill Drive in Greenbelt that sent a man to the hospital and left neighbors under an extended police presence. Officers are still determining a motive and whether any suspects are in custody, and they’re asking anyone who saw or heard anything to contact Greenbelt Police at 301-474-7200.
   

2. An asteroid could hit the moon in 2032, scattering debris toward Earth (sciencenews.org) — Greenbelt residents may be intrigued that NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center here is helping assess a small asteroid that has a slim chance of striking the moon in 2032. Scientists are modeling how such an impact could endanger satellites and astronauts, and say any mission to study or deflect the asteroid would need to be developed soon.

NASA's PUNCH Spies Comet Lemmon (nasa.gov) — NASA’s PUNCH mission has captured detailed views of comet Lemmon’s changing tail as it moves past the Sun, revealing how solar wind and outbursts buffet the comet. The mission is managed from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, highlighting the city’s role in cutting-edge space science.
   

4. Hubble Sees Asteroids Colliding at Nearby Star for First Time (astrobiology.com) — Greenbelt’s NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, which manages Hubble operations, is at the heart of new observations of colliding asteroids around the nearby star Fomalhaut. Using Hubble and the James Webb Space Telescope, scientists are tracking giant dust clouds from these crashes to better understand how planetary systems form and to avoid mistaking such debris for exoplanets.
