Biking For Babies Entourage Rolls Through Havre De Grace On National Tour

The Biking for Babies national tour will have an overnight stop in Havre de Grace with a reception at St. Patrick Catholic Church.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — This Friday, St. Patrick Church in Havre de Grace will host an overnight stop for the young adults involved with Biking for Babies.

Joanna Friedenberg with St. Patrick Catholic Church told Patch that the group made a brief visit at the church last year during their annual biking tour, but this year they'll be holding a reception for the group before they stay over.

According to their website, Biking for Babies "proclaims the dignity of human life by uniting cycling with the formation of young adults into missionary disciples of Jesus Christ. Young adults undergo transformation by encountering Jesus through a lived experience of sacrificing their time and energy on behalf of the culture of life. These sacrifices deepen their love for God and neighbor. They discover the spiritual truth that loving sacrificially leads to fulfillment and joy."

The Biking for Babies initiative started when Jimmy Becker and Mike Schaefer took their bikes to Southern Illinois University Carbondale in March 2009 with the goal to bicycle 600 miles in order to fundraise and raise awareness for the women and family-focused efforts taking place at pregnancy resource centers. They not only biked those miles, but they raised over $14,000 for a local pregnancy resource center.

This year’s National Ride is going on this week, July 14-19, totaling around 600 miles on the following route:
