Concord Point Lighthouse Going Pink For October

Harford County's most popular landmark is a beacon of shining light on the shore of Havre de Grace.

In October, it shines for an entirely different purpose.

The Concord Point Lighthouse will be illuminated in pink for the third consecutive year, beginning with a formal ceremony Friday at 7 p.m., after Harford County Executive David Craig proclaimed October as "Breast Cancer Awareness Month" in the county.

The lighthouse and the County Administration Building at 220 South Main Street will be lit up pink for the entire month.

“Harford County Government is once again proud to partner with the Maryland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the City of Havre de Grace in our on-going effort to heighten awareness of the serious health issue of breast cancer," Craig said in a news release. "Our proclamation is a small step but a significant symbol of our support for Susan G. Komen for the Cure and others to find a cure for this terrible disease."

The lighting ceremony will also feature Havre de Grace Mayor Wayne Dougherty and members of City Council, Elaine Bonneau of Komen Maryland, City of Havre de Grace employee Collen Critzer, Harford County Parks and Recreation Director Arden McClune and County Employee and event coordinator Kim Spence. 

McClune and Critzer are both breast cancer survivors.

"The pink rays of light reflecting on the Concord Point Lighthouse during 'Breast Cancer Awareness Month' will be a symbol of Harford County’s dedication and hope in finding a cure," Spence said in a statement.
