Downtown Havre de Grace Eatery Announces Its Closure

A popular downtown Havre de Grace restaurant will be closing at the end of the month.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — Just a handful of years after opening its doors in downtown Havre de Grace, Abbey Burger has announced that will close at the end of the month.

Located at 226 North Washington St., the restaurant posted on social media that the closure was spurred by the simple "challenges of running a restaurant" that were impeded by the nonstop closure of North Washington Street for a revitalization project. The building's landlord also would be selling and the eatery couldn't purchase the property, the post indicated.

“This decision wasn’t easy, but it’s time to close this chapter,” the restaurant posted. “We do so with deep gratitude and sincere appreciation for every one of you who walked through our doors.”

In February, several restaurant employees were arrested in connection to a suspected drug ring operating out of the eatery, Patch previously reported. Detectives from the Harford County Drug Task Force began an investigation in September 2024 into reports of cocaine sales at the Abbey Burger Havre de Grace.

Detectives witnessed multiple employees of the business selling and using drugs while on the job and one employee sold cocaine to an undercover officer. On five separate occasions, cocaine was sold to undercover officers inside the business and three of these sales were made by the employees while they were working at the restaurant, detectives said in a news release.
