Former Councilman Says He'll Run in May Election

We're still a month away from the official window to file for the May 7 election, but one former public official has thrown his hat into the ring.

The only question is: which ring?

In a comment on Patch, former City Councilman Fred Cullum declared that he would run for public office again this year.

Cullum served 16 years over eight non-consecutive terms as a council member. He finished fourth in the race for three council seats last May.

Council members are elected to two year terms, and half of the six members face reelection every city election. 

He didn't say whether he would run for council again, or for mayor, as he did in 2007. Mayor Wayne Dougherty won that election—and the two mayoral elections since.

In a coversation with Patch, Cullum declined to say which office he planned to seek.

None of the incumbents has said publicly whether they intend to run in May. Dougherty is the incumbent mayor, and the seats held by councilmembers Randy Craig, John Correri and Barbara Wagner are also up for a vote.

Councilmen David Glenn, Bill Martin and Joe Smith were elected last May.

The window to file for the May 7 election is weekdays from March 5-19 at City Hall.
