Forton's Biggest Canvas Ready For Display

Shawn Forton's mural will be recognized by Havre de Grace officials Friday afternoon.

Sixty-five hours of sweat and effort has given a piece of art that will last generations.

Shawn Forton completed his mural near Warren Street Thursday afternoon, signifying an end to a self-motivated masterpiece.

Forton—a 2002 graduate of —took off the entire month of July to focus on the project, a vision he first shared with in March.

It was from there that the volunteer worked with , officials and Amtrak contacts to receive permission to clear the block wall of brush and begin the project.

Thursday, he revealed he worked 13 days where temperatures soared into triple digits, using 15 gallons of paint.

Friday, the city will recognize Forton's efforts in .

The ceremony will include city representatives, members of the Susquehanna Hose Company and Vulcan Materials—which donated the stone and boulders to landscape the area in front of the wall.

Mayor Wayne Dougherty will present a proclamation to Forton.
