GoFundMe Created For Family Of 11-Year-Old 'Bright Light' Fatally Hit By Vehicle

A GoFundMe has been set up for the family of 11-year-old Delanie Kessler who was fatally hit Sunday night while crossing Riverside Parkway.

BELCAMP, MD — Described as a "bright light" in the lives of everyone who knew her, 11-year-old Delanie Kessler was fatally hit by a vehicle while crossing MD 543 Sunday night.

The incident happened shortly after 5 p.m. on Dec. 28. Maryland State Patrol troopers were called to the area of northbound Riverside Parkway (MD 543) at Church Creek Road. Investigators said a Jeep Grand Cherokee was northbound on MD 543 on a green light when Delanie tried to cross MD 543 in the crosswalk and was hit by the SUV, Patch reported previously.

Brandy Vick of Riverside, the mom of one of Delanie's friends put together a GoFundMe to help support Delanie's family as they honor her life.

"She was a beloved daughter, sister, friend ... Delanie was full of life, laughter and sweetness. She was an excellent student and an all around amazing little girl. She had a smile that made days brighter and a heart that welcomed everyone around her. Her absence is deeply felt not only in her home, but in the hearts of her classmates and friends — including my daughter, Brielle, who considered her one of her best friends," Vick said.

Vick said the fundraiser was set up with the permission of Roni Tilton, Delanie’s mother, to help cover funeral/memorial expenses, and to "provide the family with some peace and stability while they grieve and navigate a future no parent should ever have to imagine."

"No amount is too small — every donation and every share helps. If you are unable to give financially, please keep Delanie and her family in your thoughts and prayers, and hold your loved ones a little closer tonight. Thank you for honoring her memory with us. Rest in peace, sweet Delanie. You will never be forgotten," Vick wrote.

As of Dec. 30, $8,691 had been raised toward the goal of $15,000.
