CECIL COUNTY, MD — Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan recognized a crossing guard who saved the life of a student nearly struck by an oncoming car recently.

Last week, Cpl. Annette Goodyear of Cecil County’s North East Police Department was guiding a student through a crosswalk when she noticed an oncoming car speeding down the street.

As the car approached the crosswalk and continued forward, without hesitation, Cpl. Goodyear sacrificed herself by pushing the student to safety and took the full impact from the oncoming car, authorities said.

According to authorities, the student was uninjured and Cpl. Goodyear was transported to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries.

While she told Inside Edition she was sore afterward, she'd do it again if she had to.

“Being a mom and an officer, yes, and I would do it for any kid,” she told the news outlet.

It was not immediately clear if the driver will face any charges.

"Like so many Marylanders, I was moved by the video of Cpl. Annette Goodyear selflessly putting herself in harm’s way to save a young student from being hit by an oncoming car last week," Gov. Hogan said in a tweet. "I presented her with a governor’s citation for her incredible act of heroism."

Cpl. Goodyear has served as a crossing guard for 14 years with the North East Police Department in Cecil County. She was the first female to join the department.
