Board Of Ed Tables Vote, Seeks Alternatives

The Harford County Board of Education postponed the vote to determine how to move forward with a proposed new high school in Havre de Grace.

The Harford County Board of Education postponed its vote on how to move forward with a new high school in Havre de Grace during a meeting Monday in Bel Air.

In tabling the vote, the board also approved a motion to allow Superintendent Dr. Robert Tomback to explore alternative plans. Tomback previously recommended wholesale replacement of the school, rather than options for renovation/modernization of the current building.

The board empowered Tomback with the authority to explore alternative sites for a new building, according to a statement from Harford County Public Schools. Previously, the board cited concerns about the proximity of a proposed replacement school to the commuter rails that bisect the city.
