Harford To Name Head Of Emergency Services Tuesday

Harford County has a new branch, the Department of Emergency Services.

Harford County's first head of emergency services will be announced on Tuesday.

County Executive David R. Craig said Friday the head of the county's new Department of Emergency Services would be unveiled in a formal announcement Tuesday morning in the Harford County Council Chambers.

Craig issued an executive order to create the department in 2012 after it was recommended by the Harford County Fire & EMS Commission and the Harford County Public Safety Commission, according to Craig's office.

The department, initially dubbed the "Department of Public Safety," is being created "to help ensure the highest quality of service to the citizens and visitors of Harford County and to support our volunteer-based fire and emergency medical services system," according to Craig's office.

The head of the department will be introduced at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the chambers, located at 212 S. Bond St. in Bel Air.
