Council President to Defend Seat In May Election

Randy Craig will be on the ballot for Havre de Grace City Council in the May 7 election.

There will be a full ballot for the May election in Havre de Grace.

Incumbent City Council President Randy Craig filed Monday morning to defend his seat on the dais, he told Patch in a message.

Craig, who will be seeking his fourth consecutive term on City Council, will be challenged by former Councilman Fred Cullum and community volunteer Tom Barnes in the May 7 election.

Three of the council's six seats will be available on the ballot. Voters will decide who will fill the seats currently held by Craig, Barbara Wagner and John Correri.

Neither Wagner nor Correri had filed as of Monday morning, but could address their intentions during Monday's council meeting at City Hall.

There will be a race for the mayor's office, as well. Former Councilman Jim Miller filed last week to challenge incumbent Wayne Dougherty, who will be seeking his fouth consecutive term in office.

Councilmembers were elected last May, and their seats will be up for vote in May 2014. 

Craig was voted council president by his colleagues following last spring's election. Craig also served as City Council President in 2009-2010. Craig received the highest number of votes among those running for council in the 2011 election.

Craig, who has three children with his wife, Jessica, is the son of Harford County Executive David Craig—a former Havre de Grace Mayor and Councilman.
