Havre de Grace Farmers Market, Others Up for National Contest
A national farmland organization is seeking pledges from residents to spend money at their local farmers' market.

It's one thing to say you shop local, but a national competition wants shoppers to put money where their mouths are.
The I Love My Farmers Market Celebration, organized by the American Farmland Trust, aims to get residents to pledge to spend a certain amount (at least $10) at their neighborhood market.
The top 100 markets nationwide will receive prizes and special recognition on the competition's website.
Markets in California are leading the pack, with $9,780 pledged to markets across that state. Maryland markets have attracted $3,050 in pledges.
The celebration runs through Sept. 9. There are no pledges yet for the Havre de Grace Farmers' Market, but you can make a pledge on the celebration's website. You can make one pledge each day, whether to Havre de Grace's market or any other in the area.
