Warriors Baseball Advances To Region Final
Havre de Grace defeated Perryville, 5-4, with a thrilling finish Wednesday at Stancill Field.

The tying run rounded third base and was halfway home, but the Havre de Grace baseball team was already celebrating Wednesday.
After senior left fielder Bobby Smith's diving catch finished off classmate Christian Glassman's complete game, the Warriors enjoyed a dogpile in shallow left field. They'd earned it.
The Warriors rallied to break the tie in the top of the seventh, and Glassman closed out the win in the bottom half of the frame as the Warriors advanced with a 5-4 win against Perryville at Stancill Field.

The victory avenged a pair of regular season losses to the Panthers, and puts the Warriors in Friday's region final.
Havre de Grace pushed across the winning run in the top of the seventh courtesy of some small-ball tactics that head coach Chad Blevins said he dreamt about the night before.

Junior center fielder Luis Nieves stole second base, and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt. He then scored when classmate Dominick Bolen dropped down a squeeze bunt for the go-ahead run.
Glassman pitched a complete game for the win—his final game at Stancill Field. It was a gutsy performance for Glassman, who earned the start as a leader on the team, Blevins said after the victory.
The Warriors have just four seniors.
Havre de Grace advances to face Bo Manor at 4 p.m. Friday in Chesapeake City. The winner of that game earns the region championship and a berth in the state semifinals.
Havre de Grace last reached the state tournament in 2004 and 2005. And before that, in 1998—Blevins' senior season.
