UPDATE: Havre de Grace Water Plant Back In Service

The Havre de Grace water plant was shut down early Wednesday morning.

UPDATED (11:30 a.m.)—The Havre de Grace  is back in service after an outage Wednesday morning.

 Director of the Department of Public Works Larry Parks told just after 11 a.m. Wednesday that activity was restored after a temporary shut-down at the facility. Water service remained active during the shut-down, but water pressure was impacted.

"For now we’re back in service," Parks said.

A 58-year-old valve original to the plant was scheduled for replacement, but the overnight replacement failed. Parks said the replacement should be in place within a week.

Until then, the city plant will not be supplying Harford County with the regular 1 million gallons per day that it pulls from the Susquehanna River for county use, Parks said.

The city initially released the following announcement via an automated call at 8:40 a.m. Wednesday:

The Havre de Grace water plant is shut down at this time. Some homes are experiencing lower than normal water pressure. Repairs to the water plant are taking longer than planned. We expect the plant to go back online within the next two hours. please limit your use of water where possible. We apologize for the inconvenience.
