New Emergency Alert System In Place For Harford County Residents

Residents now will use HarfordCoMD Alerts for emergency notifications sent in real-time for weather, traffic issues, crime and more.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — The county has upgraded its emergency notification system to what leaders call a "faster and more reliable system."

The new system, HarfordCoMD Alerts, will send real-time notifications about events such as severe weather warnings, infrastructure outages, major traffic disruptions, evacuations and shelter in place, major or localized crimes, missing people and more. Citizens also can register to receive non-emergency notifications for messages like public events, hydrant flushing and street sweeping.

Anyone who was registered in the county’s previous system, Blackboard Connect, already has been transferred to the new system. But anyone can submit a new registration form by texting “HarfordCoMD” to 410457-3655 or visiting https://www.smart911.com/smart911/ref/reg.action?pa=HarfordCountyAlerts. Residents also can register their family members under their account or register on behalf of someone else.
