Newcomer Robert Greene Enters City Council Race

Robert Greene has lived in Havre de Grace for 10 years and will run for City Council.

The Havre de Grace City Council race picked up a newcomer in the hours leading up to the filing deadline Tuesday.

Robert E. Greene, 66, has lived in Havre de Grace since 2003. He's a former insurance broker, businessman, civic servant and volunteer. He served as a personnel officer with Harford County Government, and was appointed to two state committees by two different governors in the 80s and 90s.

He's been retired from business since 2003.

"I wanted to do something," Greene said of his reason for running. "I was sitting on the sidelines. I could be making contributions."

He will challenge two incumbents—Randy Craig and John Correri—as well as former Councilman Fred Cullum and fellow political newcomer Tom Barnes. Current Councilwoman Barbara Wagner told Patch Tuesday she will not seek reelection.

Incumbent Mayor Wayne Dougherty will be challenged by former Councilman Jim Miller.

The deadline to file is 5 p.m. Tuesday.
