Promenade Expansion, Lock House Project Awarded Grant Funds

The Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenway announced it has received approximately $140,000 in grants from Maryland Heritage Areas Authority.

The Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenway announced Wednesday it has received approximately $140,000 in grants—including about $40,000 specifically reserved for Havre de Grace projects.

The grants are matching funds administered by the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority.

In an announcement posted on Patch, the Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenway announced that funding had been acquired to aid the expansion of the Promenade north onto the newly-acquired property upriver from Concord Point Lighthouse.

That funding, at $20,000, will cover "engineering, site work and utility costs" associated with the promenade extension, the announcement stated.

The city announced basic plans for the property in the spring, before residents voted in favor of purchasing the land. Plans called for the expansion of the Promenade from the lighthouse north to a public pier at Heron Harbor.

Another grant at $19,461 was awarded to the Susquehanna Museum of Havre de Grace, Inc., for the rehabilitation of first-floor windows. It will aid the second phase of the historic window and shutter rehab project at the Lock House.

A final grant of $100,000 was presented to the Greenway for "heritage area management, project reinvestment and a mini-grant program," the announcement stated.
