Push Of A Button Lights Tennis, Basketball Courts

A grant enabled Havre de Grace to have manually-operated lights on two heavily-used outdoor recreation facilities.

Having lights for a late-night tennis match or game of pick-up basketball can be as simple as flipping a switch.

Or, at two courts in , a push of a button.

The basketball and tennis courts located along Juniata Street, across from and neighboring , were outfitted with new efficient lighting, .

The project is nearing completion, and the lights were operable as of Wednesday. A final test of the lights was to be conducted Wednesday evening, and project clean-up was yet to be completed.

However, Havre de Grace residents and visitors looking for evening activities can utilize the courts at their leisure.

As they approach the entrance to both courts, users can push a button on the nearest light pole (see photos) for an hour of high-quality, high-efficiency light.

that a grant from Program Open Space and the Community Parks and Playgrounds Program covered $126,400 in upgrades to the courts, according to a news release from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
