The prize is going up Monday for the first angler to find a special tagged fish.
The fish, named Diamond Jim, is one of 200 striped bass state biologists and anglers tagged in the Chesapeake Bay. The reward for finding Diamond Jim rises at midnight Monday from $10,000 to $20,000, then to $25,000 in August.
If Diamond Jim is caught, the winning angler will receive one-carat diamond earrings from Annapolis-based Zachary's Jewelers and $1,000 in gift cards to Maryland tackle shops, according to the release.
If Diamond Jim is not caught by Labor Day, the $25,000 reward will be split among people who caught and registered one of the other 199 fish, according to a release. The contest is part of the Maryland Fishing Challenge.
