Snowstorm, Power Outages May Hit Harford by Wednesday

With most of Maryland under a winter storm watch, BGE brings on extra workers.

A winter storm could dump more than a foot of snow in central Maryland.

From Tuesday evening to Wednesday night, a winter storm watch is in effect for Harford County and most of the state, according to the National Weather Service.

During a winter storm watch, "there is a potential for significant snow accumulations that may impact travel," according the weather service.

On Monday, the weather service also issued a small craft advisory on the Chesapeake Bay due to wind. It warned coastal flooding may occur Wednesday as the result of snow melt.

"Snow accumulations are forecasted to reach between six to 15 inches," according to a news release from Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE).

Wind gusts could get as strong as 50 mph during the storm, causing outages and possibly preventing the company's use of bucket trucks to make repairs right away, the release stated.

In case of outages, BGE said it was bringing in 500 extra workers.

The regional Foot's Forecast published Monday morning announced: "What's coming Tuesday for Maryland, Virginia, the Potomac River Valley, southeast and central Pennsylvania could be the snowstorm of the year, in a powder-filled last hurrah," bringing "difficult travel, school closures and flight cancellations."
