SOFTBALL: Smith, Caine Homer In Warrior Win

Smith, in her second high school game, homered in her first-inning at bat. According to the Patterson Mill staff, Smith's homer was the first to ever clear the hill in left field, Warriors assistant coach Austyn Ripken said.

After single runs in the first and second innings, and a five-run explosion in the fifth, Caine hit a three-run shot in the four-run sixth to put the game out of reach.

Emily Lewis was 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs and one run batted in, while Rebecca Ashman had three hits and two runs scored.

Smith was 2-for-5, adding a single and two runs to her solo homer.

Hayley Kitts, who walked twice and scored a run offensively, started the win in the pitcher's circle, scattering three runs on five hits in three innings. She struck out two.
