Motorists can expect some additional traffic and construction-related noise when traveling Interstate 95 over the Millard E. Tydings Memorial Bridge this weekend. Underwater repairs to the bridge's foundation will be carried out from 7 a.m. on Saturday to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Work may also be performed the following weekend, Aug. 18-19. According to a statement from the Maryland Transportation Authority, the construction "is part of a preservation project to perform underwater foundation (concrete piers/bridge supports) repairs to the Tydings Bridge and is necessary to the structural integrity of the bridge piers." The $43 million project—which is similar to the underwater project that began on the Hatem Bridge in April—should be complete by late 2013.
