The project will be lead by general contractor Bob Ward Companies, Inc., of Edgewood.

The new home will replace the Keck family's townhome, where SSG Keck struggles to maneuver in a wheelchair and to constantly go up and down the steps.

"You can't get a wheel chair in the house without getting off of it and carrying it," he said in a video included with this post.

The project will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday. The project will rely heavily on volunteers, who will assist the general contractor in the build-out. The hands-on work for volunteers will include "framing interior walls, installing windows, hanging doors, shingling the roof, and installing siding," according to an email from event organizers to volunteers.

"I was astonished on several aspects of the organization," Keck said in the video. "I was amazed to find out what they did and how well it was done. It's a magnificent home that is built with character, care and pride. I'm grateful."
