Wilmer Eye Institute Acquires Parris Castoro

The Harford County eye care group will join Johns Hopkins.

The Parris Castoro Eye Care centers in and have been acquired by the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Medicine.

The offices in both and will remain, according to a news release from Johns Hopkins. The statement said the surgery center has been renamed to join the Wilmer Eye Institute.

“As an internationally-renowned eye institution that specializes in the diagnosis and management of complex medical and surgical eye disease; and serves as a preeminent provider of routine eye care and refractive, optical, cosmetic, and eye trauma service, we care for many critical patients from Baltimore city and surrounding areas,” Peter J. McDonnell, M.D., director and William Holland Wilmer Professor of Ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute said in a prepared statement. “We are pleased to expand our outpatient surgery capacity so that we can provide direct necessary and convenient care to our patients and the residents surrounding the Harford County community.”

Eight full-time ophthalmologists and five full-time optometrists will lead the staff.

Adrienne Scott, M.D., assistant professor of ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins, will be the medical director of the new facility.

“It is a great pleasure to join Drs. Parris and Castoro, and the superb family of eye care providers and staff they have assembled,” Scott said in a statement. “We look forward to continued success with our newly expanded team to bring the latest eye care and surgical techniques, and the most groundbreaking research to our patients.”

The practice began in 1975 when Wayne H. Parris, M.D. sought to provide top-notch surgical eye care.

“We wanted to continue to provide excellent eye care for our patients and to make sure our employees kept their jobs,” Parris said in a statement. “We know Wilmer has outstanding eye care and we know our patients would benefit. The majority of our Parris Castoro original team is here along with advanced surgical expertise and technology.”

Dr. Charles Castoro said: “Wilmer is a great fit for us and the community. They bring continuity and a new level of expertise. Wilmer revitalized our surgical practice and all subspecialties are back and our patients are benefiting. Our patients now not only have access to us but to experts in ophthalmology.”
