HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — Three cats died in a house fire early Thursday morning and their 66-year-old owner remains in guarded condition at Shock Trauma.
The woman told investigators with the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office that she turned on her oxygen concentrator in the living room around 4:19 a.m. Aug. 21 then heard a pop followed by a flash of fire. She was able to escape through the front door while a neighbor who saw the flames called 911, the state fire marshal's office reported.
Upwards of 65 firefighters with the Susquehanna Hose Company battled the blaze, which took an hour to control. Investigators have estimated loss of contents and structure damage at $400,000.
