About 60 Citations Issued to Tubers on July 4

Illegal activity on the Gunpowder River during tubing season has been a big concern in the Monkton area.

McGraw said the number of citations were given on the Fourth of July were especially high, but police still issue several on a daily basis during the warmer months.

However, because of increased police patrols, McGraw said it has been less of a problem than in years past.

Alcohol consumption, which is illegal on the Gunpowder River, is another major concern.

"We've seen it happening a lot," McGraw said. "The (Maryland Department of Natural Resources rangers and Baltimore City Watershed police) are monitoring the situation."
