DeMatha Hockey Team Takes Governor's Award

ice hockey team recently received the Governor's Service Award for projects coordinated through Hyattsville's Office of Volunteer Services. Team leader Kyle Jiron received the governor's medal for the project, helping to collect necessary items for a local family in need.

The Governor's Service Awards recognize significant contributions of Maryland citizens to the life and health of the state and its people.

The nominated service must have a positive influence that addresses a community problem or enhances the quality of life in the state. For individual nominations, the nominated service can't be something the person was paid for through their employer. All organizations or groups must have been operational for two years in order to be nominated. In early April, nominations were reviewed by a panel of 30 community leaders, volunteers and state staff.
