Laurel police seek surveillance video, public help after 40+ car break-ins (wusa9.com) — Laurel police are investigating more than 40 weekend car break‑ins across neighborhoods near Ashford Blvd, Oxford Drive, Laurel Lakes Court, and Harvest Bend Lane, and are asking residents to share any surveillance footage. Officers also urge neighbors to lock vehicles, remove valuables, improve outdoor lighting, and stay vigilant as they work to identify suspects and consider increased patrols.
   

2. How to get ready for winter in Maryland: Warming shelters, pet care and safety tips (thebanner.com) — Laurel residents can use the Maryland City at Russett Library on Russett Common as a designated warming site during cold snaps this winter. The article also shares statewide tips on emergency alerts, home and car prep, pet safety, and where to find shelters and crisis help across nearby counties when temperatures plunge.
   

3. PGPD - PGPD Investigating Fatal Collision (somd.com) — A Laurel resident, 49-year-old Laura Johnson, has died after a two-vehicle crash Friday near Annapolis Road and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway in unincorporated Hyattsville. She initially suffered injuries considered non-life-threatening but later died at the hospital. Prince George’s County police are still investigating and are asking anyone with information about the collision to contact their Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit or Crime Solvers anonymously.
   

4. Montgomery County passes HERO Act in honor of fallen firefighter (wusa9.com) — A Montgomery County firefighter who died battling a house fire in Laurel inspired a new county law to speed death benefits to first responders’ families. The HERO Act now requires pension payments within 60 days and extends protections to police, with plans to cover sheriff’s deputies and correctional officers as well.
   

5. AAA expects record-setting numbers of travelers on the roads this holiday season (dcnewsnow.com) — Holiday drivers from Laurel and across the region can expect especially crowded roads through January 1, with AAA projecting a record 122 million travelers nationwide and most going by car. Gas prices are offering a small break, with the national average at $2.89 per gallon, though the D.C. area remains among the pricier spots for fuel.
