• Man allegedly throws woman's dog off 3rd floor apartment balcony, sets building on fire (local12.com) — Emergency crews rushed to a two-alarm fire on Muirkirk Road in Laurel after a domestic dispute allegedly escalated into arson that damaged an apartment building and injured the suspect. Authorities say a woman’s dog was thrown from a third-floor balcony hours earlier but is expected to survive, and multiple agencies are now investigating the incident and related charges.

• NASA's Parker Solar Probe Spies Solar Wind ‘U-Turn' (nasa.gov) — Laurel residents might be interested to know that NASA’s Parker Solar Probe is operated from the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory right in Laurel where the spacecraft was also designed and built. New ultra-close images from its 2024 flyby show solar material falling back toward the Sun, offering scientists fresh insight into how solar eruptions form and evolve, which could eventually improve space-weather forecasting that affects satellites and power grids on Earth.
