Pedestrian Dies After Struck by Box Truck on Route 1 in Laurel
Maryland State Police says the victim was walking in the roadway early Tuesday morning when he was hit.
LAUREL, MD — A pedestrian was killed in a wreck early Tuesday on Route 1, according to Maryland State Police. The deceased has been identified as Jonathan J. Swinton, 23, of Laurel.
According to police, a 2003 Isuzu box truck was heading north on Route 1 north of the ICC when it struck Swinton, who was reportedly walking in the roadway.
The driver of the truck has been identified as a 55-year-old Jessup man. The northbound lanes were closed for three hours

State police reconstruction units are investigating the wreck. There was no indication of impairment in the wreck, according to police. The investigation is ongoing.
