Amazon’s 2nd fulfillment center in Baltimore County – and fourth in the state - is officially open for business. The more than 1 million square foot facility expands the company’s presence at Tradepoint Atlantic Business Park, where it currently operates an 855,000 square foot robotics fulfillment center, which launched in 2019, with more than 2,500 full-time employees. Amazon welcomed hundreds of new employees to the state-of-the-art building for the first time on August 16 to celebrate its Day One of operation. After a morning of training and activities, associates received the first item into the new building: a bulk pack of waterproof socks.

This facility will employ more than 500 full-time associates who will work alongside innovative Amazon technologies, including energy efficient, zero emissions power industrial trucks (PIT), to pick, pack and ship larger items to customers across the region, including bulk paper towels, sporting equipment and gardening tools, to name a few.

"We couldn't be more pleased that Amazon is continuing to expand its footprint here in Maryland, creating valuable job opportunities for thousands of Marylanders," said Governor Larry Hogan. "This investment is more important than ever as we continue on our road to economic recovery, and it is further proof that Maryland truly is open for business."

Amazon jobs are great jobs with great benefits. On top of Amazon’s $15 minimum wage, the company offers full-time employees industry-leading benefits, which include comprehensive healthcare from day one, 401(k) with 50 percent match, up to 20 weeks paid parental leave and Amazon’s innovative Career Choice program, which pre-pays 95% of tuition for courses in high-demand fields. Since the program’s launched, more than 25,000 employees have pursued degrees in game design and visual communications, nursing, IT programming and radiology, to name a few. In addition, Amazon has pledged to invest over $700 million to provide upskilling training for 100,000 U.S. employees for in-demand jobs. Programs will help Amazonians from all backgrounds access training to move into highly skilled roles across the company’s corporate offices, tech hubs, fulfillment centers, retail stores, and transportation network, or pursue career paths outside of Amazon.

An Amazon presence in Maryland means more than just the jobs provided within the four walls of its facilities. In addition to full-benefit, great jobs inside the building, the company has created thousands of jobs in construction and services.

Since 2010, Amazon has created more than 17,500 jobs in Maryland and invested more than $5+ billion across the state, including infrastructure and compensation. These investments have contributed an additional $4.4 billion to the Maryland economy and have helped create more than 11,200 indirect jobs on top of Amazon’s direct hires – from jobs in construction and logistics to professional services. In addition, more than 40,000 independent authors and small and medium businesses in Maryland are selling to customers in Amazon’s store, creating thousands of additional jobs across the state.

“In these challenging times, we are especially excited to see Amazon doubling-down on Baltimore County — bringing even more employment opportunities for working families across our region,” said Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski. “The new state-of-the-art facility is great news for the continued success of Tradepoint Atlantic and another major step forward in Sparrows Point’s transformative redevelopment into a vibrant hub for global commerce.”
